Madelene Lewis, M.D.
Radiologist & Cancer Survivor
Dr. Madelene Lewis is a Professor of Diagnostic Radiologist at the Medical University of South Carolina. She specializes in Women’s Imaging, focusing on breast cancer, ultrasound, and health care disparities. She also serves as the Program Director of the Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program, where she oversees the training of 44 residents in the field of radiology. Dr. Lewis is a leader at Hollings Cancer Center, serving as the Cancer Liaison Physician for the Cancer Committee.
She is nationally recognized as an expert in breast imaging and ultrasound with numerous invitations to lecture and multiple journal publications. She has many national leadership roles within radiology societies and has been awarded the Department of Radiology Leadership Award and Diversity, Inclusion, and Gender Equity Award. She attributes much of her success to hard work, collaboration, optimism, and mentorship. In turn, Dr. Lewis mentors and sponsors medical students, residents, and fellows in medicine. She has a genuine love for science and has devoted herself to helping others.
Dr. Lewis is also active in the community and has served on the Camp Happy Days Board of Directors since 2013. For her outstanding service and leadership in the community and state, she was recognized as one of Charleston Regional Business Journal’s “Forty Under 40” honorees. She is a mother to three boys, ages 12, 10, and 4, and is a recent breast cancer survivor.
