Executive Director, Charleston Community Sailing, & Founder of Women on the Water
Jessica Koenig is the Executive Director of Charleston Community Sailing (CCSI), a non-profit that aims to improve the community and sport of sailing by providing access to people of all backgrounds, skill levels, and abilities. She is also the founder of Women on the Water (WoW), a program that gives women of all ages and all walks of life the opportunity to sail in racing and non-racing capacities.
Jessica grew up sailing on the Chesapeake Bay taking summer sailing classes and eventually becoming a certified sailing instructor. She attended Washington College and became a founding member and Captain of the sailing team. Her guidance and dedication helped put Washington College on the map for coed and women's sailing. Upon graduation, she moved to Charleston and got involved with The Charleston Yacht Club while coaching youth sailing and focusing on her personal competitive sailing.
Since her time with CCSI, she has implemented successful youth programs including competitive racing clinics, outreach programs for underprivileged children, a Special Olympics sailing team, Camp Cool, a Women on the Water program followed by Girls on the Water, fund-raising events and summer sailing classes. While doing that, she was also managing and growing the already existing high school sailing programs.
Jessica is a U.S. Sailing Instructor Trainer, a U.S. Sailing STEM Educator, ACA Level 1 SUP Coach and is part of Small Boat National Faculty and Community Sailing Council, holding her Red Cross CPR, AED and First Aid certifications. In 2008, Jessica was awarded the Charleston Regional Business Journal prestigious “40 Under Forty” award for her work with Charleston Community Sailing.
