Women in Construction
Janet Bates is part of the 1.3% of the female workforce in the construction industry. As inaugural president of the Palmetto Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), Janet is on a mission to educate women about opportunities in the industry and help close the pay gap between men and women.
She is a graduate of the Tuck School of Business Bridge Program at Dartmouth; holds her MBA in General Management and Sustainable Enterprise from the University of North Carolina Kenan Flagler Business School and her BA in Theatre and Dramatic Literature from The George Washington University. Janet is a proud working mother, a passionate CrossFit athlete, and a self-described “raging feminist.”
In addition to serving on the NAWIC Palmetto Chapter Board of Directors, Janet is a member of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Commercial Real Estate Women Charleston, the Urban Land Institute, and the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce Developers Council. She also sits on the National Green Building Standard Advisory Group. Her work with NAWIC garnered her national recognition last year as the NAWIC 2019 Future Leader of the Year.
