Like A Girl: Dare To Dream launches in the Metaverse
During the Like A Girl: Dare To Dream exhibition at the City Gallery in Charleston earlier this year, an NFT collector approached me inquiring if I sold NFTs. I had never heard about it, so I did a little research.
WTF is an NFT? Non-fungible-token. Okay… but what does that mean?
"A non-fungible token is a unit of data stored on a digital ledger, called a blockchain, that certifies a digital asset to be unique and therefore not interchangeable. NFTs can be used to represent items such as photos, videos, audio, and other types of digital files." - Wikipedia
NFT Art? Ah! They are those "jpegs" that are selling for high numbers on cyber currency. Wait! I've heard someone paid over U$69M for a digital file that, by the way, can be downloaded by anyone? It sounds crazy, and I thought that too.
I dug further: for five months. I wasn't convinced yet, but I just had to listen after about ten people asked if I sold NFTs.
If you haven't understood the hype yet, I recommend you get on Twitter (my handle is @FerCaggianoArt) and Discord to hear directly from creators and collectors. I was skeptical until I got involved and, now I am hooked. Although I have not even sold yet, I have already collected a couple of NFTs.
Let's get back to my exhibition. Visitors asked me over and over if the collection would travel nationally. I had to say no, even though I would love to document it and have it accessible virtually to anyone in the future. Charleston, SC, was meant to be the kickoff to a national project. However, I found it hard to continue without sponsors.
NFTs make this possible!
• LGDD officially launches on September 12th on the Opensea platform. (pre-sale is already open)
• The collection has been minted and lives permanently on the blockchain. I even created a virtual gallery so that everyone can visit it in the Metaverse. It works better on a computer.
• Phase 2: I will select new inspiring women, starting with some extraordinary ladies in the NFT world, and expand the project.
• Phase 3: Expand and empower other minorities.
See you in the Metaverse!
